From Brothers by Blood to Brothers by Badge
August 15, 2025 – Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office officials announce that Jacob Collins was sworn in as an Honorary Deputy.
For years, Jacob Collins, brother to Sergeant Josh Collins and Deputy Caleb Collins, has been a beloved part of the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office family. To us, Jacob is more than a familiar face; he’s our own personal superhero. His smile can brighten even the hardest days, and his laugh has a way of cutting through the toughest moments.
This week, we had the privilege of making something long overdue, yet well deserved, official. Surrounded by his family, friends, and many of the people he holds dearest, Jacob was sworn in as an Honorary Deputy. When it came time to receive his badge, he chose the most important people in his world, his mom and dad, to pin it proudly on his chest.
When it was his turn to speak, Jacob graciously shifted the spotlight to some of his closest friends: Sheriff Jeremy Briese, Sergeant Josh Collins (his big brother), Sergeant Tucker, and our Dispatcher Chelsea.
Jacob is not just a friend of the department; he is an active part of our team. Every month, he helps operate our Project Lifesaver program, which provides radio-frequency transmitters to individuals in Mariposa County who may wander due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, or other cognitive conditions. This program allows our deputies to quickly locate and safely return them home, offering invaluable peace of mind to families and caregivers.
Although Deputy Caleb Collins was unable to attend due to training, the rest of Jacob’s family came to show their love and support. Watching them together was a powerful reminder that here in Mariposa County, we are not just co-workers, we are family.
Jacob, thank you for the joy, dedication, and heart you bring to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office. You make us proud every single day.
