Rest Area, Lane/Ramp & Full Highway Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 140, 152, & 165 

August 22, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-140, SR-152, & SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through August 31, 2025.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 59

  • Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
  • Full highway closure on southbound SR-59 from West Olive Avenue/Santa Fe Drive to Cooper Street for utility work beginning Sunday, August 24, through Friday, August 29, 2025, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • One-way traffic control from State Route 33 West to Kniebes Road for utility work beginning Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to Fourth Avenue for utility work beginning Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 152

  • Conventional highway lane closures (#2 lane) on eastbound State Route 152 from the Vista Point Access Road to the San Luis Dam Service Road for pavement work on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

  • One-way traffic control from Charleston Avenue to Almond Drive for guardrail work beginning Sunday, August 24, through Monday, August 25, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
