Fatal Traffic Investigation / DUI Arrest 

August 24, 2025 – Modesto Police Department officials report that on August 23, 2025, at approximately 9:34 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle collision at Yosemite Blvd. and Phoenix Ave. Initial reports indicated a motorcyclist was down. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals from the motorcycle in the roadway. Both were transported to a local hospital. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, one of the riders did not survive.

The preliminary investigation revealed a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Yosemite Blvd. and made a northbound turn onto Phoenix Ave., directly in front of the westbound motorcycle, causing the collision.

The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old Modesto man, remained on scene, displayed signs of intoxication, and was arrested for DUI following the investigation. The driver, Billy O’Neal, was booked on charges of murder, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI with injury.
