The defibrillator is a small electronic device designed to deliver a shock to the heart in an attempt to make the heart begin beating regularly again. The AED is a very simple tool to use; rescuers simply push the clearly visible and easy to find ‘ON’ button. The device then leads the rescuer step by step through the process to apply and use the AED. AEDs are proven to save lives when used quickly and in conjunction with good Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
You do not have to be CPR certified to perform basic cardiac compressions and save a life. The Mariposa County Health Department in collaboration with the John C. Fremont Healthcare Hospital Preparedness Program and the Emergency Medical Services Local Quality Improvement Group is providing a “Compressions Only” CPR Class on June 22 at the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors. Classes begin every thirty minutes starting at 10:00 A.M. and take only 20 minutes to complete. The last class begins at 4:00 P.M. No sign ups or reservations required! Each class is limited to 20 people on a first come, first serve basis.
20 minutes can save a life!
