September 3, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that southwest officers initiated a traffic stop for speeding in the area of Fresno Street and Collins Avenue and contacted three male occupants. Due to suspicious behavior, the occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. Upon exiting, one of the passengers fled on foot, ignoring repeated commands to stop and was observed clutching his waistband, leading officers to believe he was possibly armed. The male was ultimately taken into custody nearby after he was seen discarding a loaded firearm in the back of a truck bed. Officers retrieved the discarded firearm. The 17-year-old male was found to be on juvenile probation for a firearm. He was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Campus for the following charges:
PC 29610(A) minor in possession of a handgun
PC 29820(B) prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm until they reach the age of 30
PC 29650 minor in possession of ammunition
PC 25400(A)(1) and (2) carrying an illegally concealed firearm
PC 25850(A) illegally carrying a loaded firearm on your person or in a vehicle in any public place
PC 148(A)(1) willfully resist, delay, or obstruct a peace officer
The driver was cited for speeding, both he and the additional passenger were released at the scene.
