Sen. Warren questions Bisignano on deleted metrics making it harder for Americans to access benefits, after promise of “transparency”

September 6, 2025 - Washington, D.C. – On Friday, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a leading member of Senate social security logoDemocrats’ Social Security War Room, published a new comprehensive investigative report revealing that Donald Trump’s Social Security Administration (SSA) has removed over 45 critical metrics from the agency’s website, breaking promises to prioritize "transparency" and making it harder for Americans to access Social Security benefits and services. Senator Warren today sent the new report directly to SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano, pressing him on commitments he made in their recent meeting to restore key data.

"The removal of this data harms beneficiaries, deprives Congress and the public of key information needed to understand how SSA is working, and damages the program’s integrity. There is no rationale for taking down these metrics except to cover up growing dysfunction under your watch,” wrote Senator Warren to Commissioner Bisignano.

The new Social Security War Room investigation found that, in addition to gutting the Social Security workforce and degrading key functions of the agency, Trump’s SSA has removed 48 benchmarks of critical information and data from its website, including: (1) disability benefits processing data; (2) retirement, survivor, and Medicare claims processing data; (3) key phone metrics; (4) information on staff reductions; and (5) information that helps Americans understand or modify their Social Security. The dashboard changes have occurred — without notice — while SSA’s leadership has continued to peddle false claims about wait time data.

In June, reports revealed that SSA’s online performance dashboard had been removed from the agency’s website shortly after Commissioner Bisignano took office. The dashboard had displayed key information including metrics on processing times for benefits and live wait time data for the agency’s 800 number. When SSA relaunched the dashboard in mid-June, the site was significantly pared down.

In Senator Warren’s meeting with Commissioner Bisignano in July, Bisignano committed to displaying a broader set of metrics that policymakers, beneficiaries, and the American public need to understand how the agency is functioning. Following the meeting, SSA modified its website to restore a handful of metrics — but dozens of critical indicators of program performance are still missing.

“You should immediately restore all of the key SSA metrics to the website so that Congress and the public can better understand how the program is working and whether beneficiaries are able to obtain the benefits they have earned,” wrote Senator Warren.

Senate Dems’ Social Security War Room is a coordinated effort to fight back against the Trump administration’s attack on Americans’ Social Security. The War Room coordinates messaging across the Senate Democratic Caucus and external stakeholders; encourages grassroots engagement by providing opportunities for Americans to share what Social Security means to them; and educates Senate staff, the American public, and stakeholders about Republicans’ agenda and their continued cuts to Americans’ Social Security services and benefits.
