September 9, 2025 – Merced County Sheriff's Office officials report that on the morning of September 6, 2025, Animal Services Officers Pacheco and Rafferty responded to a residence in the 7400 block of Winton Way in Winton for a report of a subject slapping a dog and tying it up in the bed of a truck.
While conducting their investigation, ASO Pacheco located a grey and white Husky lying in the bed of a truck with its legs tied together. Deputy Campos assisted Animal Services Officers and located the suspect, identified as Martin Alcaraz, 58, from Winton. Alcaraz was arrested on animal cruelty-related charges and booked into the Merced County Sheriff's Office Jail.
The Husky was seized and taken to a local Veterinary hospital, and we are happy to report that the dog did not have any serious injuries. Great job, Animal Services Officers Pacheco, Rafferty, and Deputy Campos, for your swift actions in rescuing this dog!
