Hazardous Materials Advisory 

Update: ALL Road closures have now been lifted.

As of 4:10 p.m. ALL Shelter in Place Advisories have been lifted for this incident.

The closures along Road 426 will remain in effect for another 30 minutes.


Update: Can confirm this was NOT a spill. It involved chemicals used in water treatment and was confined to one building at the location.

California American Water says it is still working to determine the specific chemicals involved.

But, it has done testing at this site and confirms water quality is normal and not impacted.

And the closures along Road 426 remain in place. The road is NOT expected to reopen until approximately 6:00 p.m.


Update: Both Yosemite Unified School District and Bass Lake Unified have been notified about road closures impacting school bus stops. Those Districts are now making arrangements for those students.


Update: This incident involved a chemical that can cause eye and breathing irritation. The Shelter in Place was ordered out of an abundance of caution.


September 9, 2025 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that due to an active Hazardous Materials incident on the 51000 block of Road 426 in Oakhurst, an Evacuation Advisory has mcso909been issued for the following zones:

🔹 MAD – E0349

🔹 MAD – E0351

🔹 MAD – E0357

🔹 MAD – E0361

Residents in these areas are advised to:

- Close all doors and windows

- Bring pets inside

- Stay tuned to official updates

A road closure is also in place along Road 426 for a half-mile in both directions.
