September 17, 2025 - Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, a spokesperson from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Democrats issued the following statement after the transcript of Former Attorney General William Barr was released to the public by Oversight Republicans. In August, Barr sat for a deposition before the bipartisan House Oversight Committee and was questioned regarding his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation where he made clear that he had limited knowledge of the Epstein investigation.

“Attorney General Barr testified to our committee that he had limited knowledge of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, or the facts of the case. He could not exonerate President Trump of wrongdoing.
However, he confirmed that contact between Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Ghislaine Maxwell— and her subsequent prison transfer— was extremely unusual, which raises serious concerns. He could not recall any non-prosecution agreement comparable to the one given to Epstein by Alex Acosta, Trump’s former Labor Secretary. And he confirmed no laws prevent Attorney General Bondi from releasing the files,” per committee spokesperson.
