Taft Firearms Arrest 

September 17, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on September 7, 2025, Kern County Sheriff's Office deputies assigned to the Taft Substation were dispatched to the 28000 block of Chaparral Avenue for shots fired call for service.

During the investigation, JAMES DYE (58) was identified by witnesses as the suspect. DYE was arrested and a search warrant was executed at DYE's residence. Deputies seized 13 firearms and ammunition from DYE's residence. DYE was booked into the Lerdo jail for PC 246.3(a); Willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
