Suspect Arrested for Criminal Threats and Brandishing a Knife Toward Fire Personnel, Murphys, CA
September 19, 2025 – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on September 17, 2025, at about 6:40 A.M., deputies were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person armed with a knife threatening firefighters on Main Street, Murphys, CA. Upon arrival, the deputies were directed to the area of Church Street as a possible location of the suspect. While checking the area, deputies and Angels Camp Police Officers located Suspect Kevin Bradley Goff, age 56, of Murphys. Suspect Goff was detained without incident while the deputies conducted their investigation.
Upon speaking with witnesses, deputies learned that the fire department was conducting an official inspection of a residential fire that occurred the night prior. While they were inspecting, Suspect Goff approached the group of firefighters. When the fire personnel asked if he was ok or needed assistance, Suspect Goff produced a knife and made a stabbing motion toward them while advancing in their direction. As the victims left the immediate area, the suspect made disparaging remarks after them. Suspect Goff then began to walk down Main Street. As one victim called 911, others continued to observe the suspect from a safe distance and directed people away from him.
An interviewed witness stated they observed Suspect Goff holding a knife in a threatening manner while shouting at the firefighters. The witness also directed the deputies to the location on Algiers Street where Suspect Goff attempted to conceal the knife used in the incident. The knife was collected and later booked into evidence.
Suspect Goff was transported to the Calaveras County Jail and charged with criminal threats (felony) and brandishing a deadly weapon (misdemeanor).
