TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane/Ramp & Full Highway Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99, 140 & 165
September 20, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59) SR-99, SR-140, & SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through September 30, 2025.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists traveling southbound are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 59
- Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from South Ingalsbe Slough Bridge to Snelling Road for tree work on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 99
- Full off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at the Bradbury Road Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, September 21, through Friday, September 26, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Full off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Bradbury Road Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, September 21, through Friday, September 26, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- One-way traffic control on northbound Childs Avenue Over-Crossing / Motel Drive / Carol Avenue for tree work beginning Tuesday, September 23, through Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- One-way traffic control from State Route 33 West to Kniebes Road for utility work beginning Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 165
- One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to SR-140 for pavement work beginning Friday, September 19, through Saturday, September 20, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- One-way traffic control from Santa Fe Grade Road to Salt Slough Bridge for pavement work beginning Sunday, September 21, through Friday, September 26, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
