September 21, 2025 – El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that on the morning of September 18th, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Detectives were made aware of a theft that had occurred at a construction site in the area of El Dorado Hills. The total loss of equipment was just over $4,000 dollars.
During the investigation it was discovered that the victims had utilized GPS AirTag devices to keep track of their equipment in the event of theft. The GPS data was relayed to Detectives who began researching the GPS location in North Sacramento.
It was discovered that the location in question was connected to an individual who was currently on probation out of Sacramento County. Detectives moved quickly and initiated a probation search at the residence locating the stolen property.
When it comes to property crimes, there are some very small things that can make a very big difference when it comes to the recovery of stolen property. Strategically placing GPS devices inside of equipment is one of the most effective ways to track items once they are stolen. It’s also imperative to report the crime as soon as possible.
Thank you to the help of our Community members who assisted us with the recovery of their property. We’re happy to report that the property was returned to its rightful owner at the scene.
