October 6, 2025 – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office officials announce that effective Thursday, October 2nd, the Fresno Fresno County Sheriff logoCounty Sheriff’s Office began providing patrol services to the City of Huron. Deputies are patrolling around the clock to handle all emergency and non-emergency calls for service. A sheriff’s sergeant is also assigned to handle administrative duties.

The City of Huron made a formal request to the Sheriff’s Office to take over its police department’s duties due to a lack of resources to serve its residents. Sheriff John Zanoni accepted the request. There is no timetable of how long this agreement will remain in place.

“As a small city with a small budget, Huron is always losing officers to cities that have more resources. As a result of recent staff turnover, the City Manager, Chief of Police and the Huron City Council made the decision to request assistance from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, who has always assisted the Huron Police Department when it has been necessary. This formal agreement secures officers within city limits to prevent any delays in calls for service. The City of Huron values the safety of our community members, and as such, this agreement will be in place until the city can hire and train incoming officers.”

- Virginia Peñaloza, City Manager – Huron

Anyone in the City of Huron who needs the assistance of law enforcement can either call sheriff’s dispatchers at (559) 600-3111 or the existing Huron Police Department number of (559) 945-2046. Dial 911 for all emergency related matters.
