Stolen Election Mail Recovered at Homeless Camp
October 16, 2025 – Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials report that early on Wednesday the Sheriff’s East POP Deputies were in the area of Elder Creek Road and Mayhew Road to address a homeless encampment previously posted for cleanup. During the abatement, Deputies located approximately 100 ballots and other election-related materials scattered among a large amount of mail.
Deputies collected all the mail, secured the ballots and election mail separately, then immediately returned them to the Sacramento County Department of Voter Registration and Elections for proper handling. The camp was vacant when Deputies arrived, and no arrests have been made as of this posting. The investigation is ongoing and if you have any information, please call 916-874-5115.
Update from Sacramento County Voter Registration & Elections: The recovered ballots were unvoted and being voided out.
