Prescribed Burn Planned in Grant Grove
October 26, 2025 – The National Park Service plans to begin prescribed burning in Grant Grove area of the Kings Canyon
National Park on Thursday, October 30, weather and air quality conditions permitting. This 482-acre project includes the area surrounding the General Grant Tree and portions of Highway 180 and Grant Tree Road between the Columbine Picnic Area and the Grant Tree parking lot.
Visitors should expect moderate smoke in the Grant Grove area. Smoke may also be visible from the Hume Lake Ranger District, and along Highways 180 and 245.
Access to the General Grant Tree and nearby trails may be temporarily closed during ignition operations, including the North Grove Loop Trail, Grant Grove Day Ride Trail, and North Boundary Trail.
