November 6, 2025 – Amador County Sheriff's Office officials report that on October 26, 2025, the Sheriff's Office received a text-to-9-1-1 message from a lost hunter in the Mud Lake area. He advised that he was separated from his partner and was unable to find the trail due to it beginning to snow and visibility being poor.

The Search and Rescue Team were activated, and the subject was ultimately located in the general area of his initial cell phone GPS location.

If you plan on enjoying our beautiful back country, don't forget to be prepared. The weather changes often in the mountains, and you could be stuck in a bad situation. Most importantly, stay where you are once help has been contacted. It is often more difficult to locate someone if they keep moving.
