November 6, 2025 - Sierra National Forest officials say there have recently been questions about Mammoth Pool accessibility. To answer thoroughly, here is the full status for this area.
From the 2023 storms, significant road damage was done across the Sierra National Forest, including well over 75 road washouts.
Due to Dean’s initiative, over $50million was obtained, contracted for, awarded and work completed on all except for Stump Springs Road (awarded, work starts next spring) to respond and restore these roads.
This $50million in road work completed is an order of magnitude (10x) other Forests in California.
More specifically, this also included 2 major washouts that have been repaired on Mammoth Pool Rd. For the road leading to the water, it also had a washout; a new 36” culvert was installed, and the road was repaired this past August.
As a result of this aggressive response to restore public access to the Forest by Dean, Forest Staff and Contractors, Windy Point Rd. (6S25D) is fully restored for your use and enjoyment.
Good luck fishing!
