Rise in Package Thefts – Be Alert, Merced!
November 12, 2025 – Merced Police Department officials report that they have seen an increase in package thefts from front porches across the city. With the holiday season approaching and online shopping on the rise, we want to remind our community to take extra precautions to keep your deliveries safe.
Here are a few tips to help safeguard your packages:
Have packages delivered to a secure location (such as your workplace, a trusted neighbor, or an Amazon/UPS locker).
Use delivery tracking and request text or email notifications so you know when a package arrives.
Ask neighbors to pick up packages if you won’t be home.
Install a video doorbell or security camera to deter thieves and assist in investigations.
Consider requiring a signature upon delivery when possible.
The individuals in the two photos below are suspects in recent package thefts that occurred within the City of Merced. If you recognize them or have any information about their identity or whereabouts, please contact the Merced Police Department at (209) 385-6998.
