Fire Suspect Detained for Arson

November 19, 2025 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that late Monday night, firefighters from CAL FIRE NEU and deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a commercial structure fire near Highway 49 and Hulbert Way in North Auburn. The building, formerly part of the Cal Ida Lumber Mill and most recently California Hardwood Producers, was fully engulfed when units arrived.

Deputies remained on scene in case evacuations were needed. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of our fire partners, the fire was contained to the building of origin with no spread to vegetation and no threat to surrounding areas.

One of the first deputies on scene noticed a woman walking out of the burning building and quickly detained her. She was later arrested by CAL FIRE Investigators for arson and booked into jail.

We want to recognize and thank CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department, Auburn City Fire Department, and Newcastle Fire Protection District for their outstanding work. A special shoutout as well to CHP - Auburn and AMR for assisting on scene.
