November 22, 2025 - Sonora, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation adjusted operating hours at New Melones Lake beginning Oct. 1, as part of its seasonal transition. The off-season operation includes closures to enable the Reclamation team to perform necessary maintenance tasks and allow for natural resource recovery. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for changes to facility access, boating regulations, and recreation services.

Boating and Mussel Prevention Reminder

• 30-Day Quarantine Requirement:
  Beginning December 2024, all trailered vessels must complete a free 30-day quarantine before launching, unless they:
  • have a New Melones Lake green seal,
  • provide proof of decontamination from New Melones Lake Marina, or
  • are powered by trolling motors, paddles, or oars, and trailer does not contact water.

Tip: Boaters should confirm ramp closing times with operators to avoid delays or a second quarantine period.

Glory Hole Recreation Area

• Gate opens at 4 a.m.; closes at 9 p.m.
• Day uses areas open sunrise to sunset
• Boat launch open 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Tuttletown Recreation Area

• Gate opens at 4 a.m.; closes at 9 p.m.
• Day use areas open sunrise to sunset
• Boat launch closed
• Campgrounds closed

Natural Bridges Day Use Area and Mark Twain Recreation Area

• Open sunrise to sunset

New Melones Lake Administration & Visitor Center

• Visitor Center and Museum are closed
• Administration building is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.
• America the Beautiful Interagency Passes available by appointment on weekdays.

Special Fire Prevention Order in Effect

• Reclamation has lifted the ash-producing fire ban as of Nov. 1.
