November 26, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff's Office officials report that search efforts for a missing U.S. Army soldier and student at the Defense Language Institute have been suspended for the day due to darkness.
The missing male has been identified as a 35-year-old U.S. Army Specialist Amanpreet Thind, from New Jersey.
On Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, three people were swept off the rocks and into the ocean at Soberanes Point within Garrapata State Park. Two women were able to self-rescue and were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries.
Search efforts resumed Monday morning, led by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office alongside California State Parks and CalFire. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Dive Team reported that water conditions remained unsafe for entry into the water throughout the day. A beach hazard warning remains in place until 10:00 P.M. Monday night.
Search efforts will resume on Tuesday morning at sunrise. According to the dive team, water conditions appear favorable for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, and a water search may begin depending on those conditions.
