December 1, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they have arrested 5 suspects after a Monterey SO press release 300residential burglary of an occupied home. 

On Saturday, November 29th, 2025, about 5:21 A.M., a 911 call came into dispatch from a victim reporting that at least two subjects had broken into their home along the 47,000 block of Pfeiffer Ridge Road in Big Sur. Fearing for his safety, the victim hid in his bathroom and remained on the line with dispatch. While on the phone, the dispatcher believed the victim was having a medical emergency and requested a medical response in addition to law enforcement response.

As deputies arrived in the area, they were informed that a responding firefighter observed a vehicle that appeared to have gotten stuck in a ditch along Pfeiffer Ridge Road near the burglarized residence. There were multiple subjects standing next to the vehicle. As deputies arrived, they contacted and detained 5 subjects associated with the vehicle.

Contact was made with the resident of the home who was treated at the scene and refused medical transport. An investigation confirmed that the five subjects detained were involved in the residential burglary. All five were arrested.

The suspects arrested were identified as:

Monte Lee Laws, age 26 of Seaside

Cooper Ervin Regier, age 18 of Seaside

Kenneth Bucud, age 20 of Seaside

Jeremiah John Gutierrez, age 22 of Fresno

Michael Jahiem Brison, age 20 of Monterey, was transported to a medical facility for a medical emergency. He was treated and released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office before being booked into Monterey County Jail.

All were booked into the Monterey County Jail for 459 PC, BURGLARY, 594(B)(1) PC, FELONY VANDALISM and 182(A)(1), CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT CRIME. Bail was set at $100,000 each.
