December 2, 2025 – Merced CHP officials report that a simple stop sign violation turned into something far more serious. During a graveyard shift enforcement stop, Officer Todd and his partner contacted a driver who failed to stop at a posted sign. While speaking with the driver, they learned there was cannabis in the vehicle and that the driver was under 21. A firearm with the serial number removed was also located. The driver was arrested and the gun was recovered.

This is a clear example of how routine traffic violations can lead to bigger results. What begins as a basic infraction can uncover impaired driving, illegal weapons, or other safety risks on our roadways. The work done by our graveyard officers continues to play a key role in keeping our community safe, even when the stop itself appears minor.
