Sheriff’s Office Update: Court-Ordered Inmate Release with Electronic Monitoring 

December 9, 2025 – Mariposa County Sheriff Briese is notifying the public of a court proceeding between the MCSO Edward Wackermanprosecuting attorney’s office (California Department of Justice) and the defense attorneys for Edward Wackerman. It was decided that Mr. Wackerman would be placed on pre-trial release from custody and would be fitted with an electric ankle monitor.

Mr. Wackerman was arrested and charged with starting the Oak Fire that started on July 22, 2022. The Oak Fire was one of the most devastating wildfires that burned 19,244 acres, destroying 193 structures, with 127 of those being homes. The cost of the fire was over $100 million dollars in firefighting efforts.
