December 18, 2025 – Mariposa County Library officials announce the Library is attempting to become established as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site this tax season.

VITA is a free tax preparation program where a certified volunteer tax preparer can prepare taxes at no cost for people who qualify for assistance. We are working with United Way of Merced County, who offers this program with approval from the IRS.

We are seeking volunteers to help with this endeavor. Becoming a volunteer with the VITA program can build new skills, look good on a resumé, and help out the community. It has even led to job opportunities.

Training will occur in January, and volunteers will be helping from mid-February to mid-April. There is some flexibility in the amount of hours volunteers can sign up for.
