December 18, 2025 – Modesto Police Department officials report that the City of Modesto has received reports of unauthorized $1 or $2 charges appearing on credit card or Apple Pay accounts that may reference “City of Modesto Compost” or similar descriptions. These charges did not originate from the City and may be part of a microtransaction fraud scam.

What to Do if You See These Charges:

• Do not ignore them — small charges are often a test before larger fraud occurs.
• Contact your bank, credit card provider, or Apple Pay immediately to report and dispute the charge.
• Monitor your account closely for additional suspicious activity.
• Avoid clicking links in unexpected texts or emails about account charges.
• Report fraud to local authorities.

If you believe your account has been affected, acting quickly can help prevent further loss.
