December 22, 2025 - Washington, D.C. — Last week, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) introduced legislation to name the San Jose Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic the “Corporal Patrick D. Tillman VA Clinic.” The legislation honors the legacy of San Jose native Pat Tillman, who left a successful career in the NFL to serve his country in the U.S. Army following the September 11th terrorist attacks. U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) is a cosponsor of the legislation.

“Pat Tillman was the true embodiment of a patriot who was dedicated to serving our country and was committed to something bigger than himself. This designation will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices our servicemembers make to serve this country, and Tillman’s courage and heroism,”said Senator Schiff.  

“Pat Tillman sacrificed his promising football career and ultimately, his life, in brave service to our nation after the September 11th attacks,” said Senator Padilla. “A San Jose native, Pat was a decorated athlete, student, and Army Ranger whose courage and dedication left an indelible mark on his community. Designating the San Jose VA community-based outpatient clinic in his name would honor Pat’s inspiring legacy as a national hero.” 

U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.-19) is the lead of the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

This bill would designate the community-based outpatient clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Jose, California as the “Corporal Patrick D. Tillman VA Clinic” after Corporal Tillman.  

Tillman served with distinction in the 75th Ranger Regiment, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He was killed in action in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, and posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. 

The bill is supported in the House by the entire California congressional delegation.
