Shooting Investigation in Merced 

December 27, 2025 – Merced County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Friday morning at approximately 8:42 a.m., deputies responded to the 300 block of East Childs Avenue in Merced regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a 24-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation, ultimately resulting in the victim being shot.

Deputies are currently searching for a suspect described as a Hispanic male, approximately 34–40 years old, standing between 5’8” and 6’0” tall, and weighing approximately 200 pounds, with a full beard. Investigators have received conflicting descriptions of the suspect’s clothing; however, the suspect may have been wearing a gray or green sweater with blue or black jeans.

At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. However, anyone who observes an individual matching this description is urged not to approach and to immediately call 9-1-1.
