January 2, 2026 – Clovis Police Department officials report that a suspect was in jail Thursday morning after shooting a rifle multiple times while intoxicated overnight. Just minutes after midnight on January 1, multiple 911 calls came into our dispatch center about an intoxicated adult male in a residential neighborhood near Shaw and Fowler, shooting a rifle.
Multiple officers responded to the 1600 block of Burgan where they witnessed the suspect in the front yard of a home, with a rifle in his hands. As officers approached and took a position of cover, the suspect saw them and pointed his rifle at them. As soon as officers identified themselves, the suspect became cooperative and dropped the rifle. The suspect and two other adults were detained without incident, injuries, or any shots fired.
After ensuring everyone was safe, it was discovered that the three adults were intoxicated. The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Tyler Anson of Clovis. Anson was booked into Fresno County Jail for felony assault with a firearm upon a peace officer and discharging a firearm in a gross negligent manner. The rifle in the suspect’s possession was found to be loaded with a bullet in the chamber. Multiple firearms were located in the home and booked into evidence by officers.
This is a sobering reminder to celebrate responsibly, without firearms. We would like to thank our officers and dispatchers for their professionalism, and the neighbors who called us immediately. We are thankful that no one was injured during this incident.
