January 6, 2026 – Stanley Bissmeyer announces his candidacy for Mariposa County District 1 Supervisor.
My name is Stanley Bissmeyer, and I am running for District 1 Supervisor in Mariposa County.
I moved to Mariposa in 1970 and graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1974. I married my wife Debbie in 1977, and together we raised our two
son’s right here in Mariposa. This county has been our home for more than five decades.
After graduation, I worked for three seasons as a seasonal firefighter with CDF. Protecting our homes, forests, and property from fire remains one of the highest priorities on my agenda.
Following my firefighting service; I worked in logging, construction, road building, and later owned and operated a logging and sawmill business as a licensed Timber Operator. Through this work, I collaborated closely with foresters, archaeologists, biologists, and conservationists on environmental projects throughout Mariposa County and the surrounding mountain areas. I am a strong advocate for responsible land use, believing we must protect our environment while continuing to live and work within it.
In 1982, I began working in the church and community as a youth pastor and counselor, most recently serving at New Life Calvary Chapel Church in Bootjack, where I continue to serve in many capacities. This work strengthened my moral foundation and deepened my love and commitment to our community.
For 18+ years, I volunteered as a Poll Supervisor for Mariposa County elections. I also served on the Mariposa County Grand Jury in 2005 and 2006, where we inspected and investigated county departments, facilities, and government operations. This experience gave me valuable insight into how our county government truly functions. I am also a strong supporter and ally of the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department and the vital role it plays in keeping our community safe.
In 1986, I began working as a certified Group Supervisor/ Youth Counselor at Mt. Bullion Youth Conservation Camp, and later at the N.A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility, a peace officer position, from which I retired. I earned my Associate of Science degree in Computer Graphics and Design in 2000, and from 2006 to 2011, I taught grades K–12 at a private school.
Throughout my career, I have received numerous certifications and awards in drug counseling, small business administration, and firefighting. These varied experiences have shaped a leadership style grounded in common sense, accountability, and teamwork.
Additionally, between my wife’s experience as an Account Tech. for Mariposa County and my own background in small business accounting, I am particularly well qualified to understand and responsibly manage the county budget—a critical duty of a County Supervisor.
My life has been dedicated to serving others and providing positive, principled leadership. In today’s politically hostile climate, it is especially important to lead without adversaries and with respect for all. I am running to represent the people of Mariposa County as District 1 Supervisor so we can work together to “Make Mariposa Thrive for Everyone”. I know I can help, and I hope to earn your vote in the June 2026 Primary.
Thank You Very Much,
Stanley Bissmeyer
