January 15, 2026 – Mariposa County Library officials announces upcoming monthly National Park Service presentation with Yosemite ranger Shelton Johnson on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

We are excited to offer another of our monthly National Park Service presentations at the Mariposa Library! This month we will welcome Yosemite ranger Shelton Johnson, who will share a presentation about how Yosemite inspired Yellowstone.

Johnson's program is officially entitled "Yosemite, the Origin and Evolution of America's Best Idea."

This presentation explores how the setting aside of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoia in June of 1864, by the federal government, made the creation of Yellowstone not only possible, but probable. It also delves into how our eventual national park system reflects nothing less than a new vision of the world.

It will take place on Tuesday, January 20th from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Mariposa Library, located at 4978 10th Street.

It is free to attend, and no registration is required. To learn more, call 209-966-2140.
