January 16, 2026 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, Madera County Search and Rescue responded to an incident at Lewis Creek involving a 34-year-old female who injured her ankle while hiking the Corlieu Falls Trail.

Personnel from Madera County SAR, U.S. Forest Service Fire and Law Enforcement, and Sierra Ambulance assisted at the scene. The patient was safely carried out to the parking area and transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical care.

As a reminder, hikers are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear, carry essential supplies, and use caution while enjoying local trails.
