January 24, 2026 - High Sierra Ranger District OSV Trail Condition Update: January 23rd, 2026

Happy Friday from the High Sierra Ranger District Over Snow Vehicle (OSV) program.

This past week, our crew groomed the following trails:

  • • Huntington Lake: From Huntington Sno-Park to the Willow Trail intersection (near Huckleberry). Trail snowpack measures less than five inches at best. Operators noted icy spots under trees in sunny areas; use caution, as the ice is too dense for our groomer's tiller to break up.
  • • Kaiser Trail: Groomed from Eastwood to the Kaiser/Stump Springs intersection.
  • • White Bark Trail: This trail was also groomed.

The Kaiser Trail offers the best current riding conditions. However, new significant snow has been absent for some time. An abundance of caution is advised across all areas. The minimal snow forecast for this weekend will not improve current conditions. We remain hopeful the storm predicted for next week will deliver more substantial snow.

Sno-Park Information & Safety

District SnoParks have a thin snowpack. Please watch carefully for objects protruding from the snow surface. The snowpack freezes solid in the mornings but quickly softens with sun exposure and use.

A reminder that SnoParks do not offer trash service. Please practice Leave No Trace principles and "Pack it in, Pack it out."

SnoParks are supported by California State Parks’ Sno-Park Passes. These passes are required for facility use and are available for purchase from authorized merchants in Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake.
