January 30, 2026 – Yosemite Area Audubon Society announces three upcoming events.
Please join Yosemite Area Audubon Society in welcoming Dustin Garrison from Yosemite National Park. Dustin will tell us about his work with Great Gray Owls in the Park.
- Presentation: Sierra Senior Center – Oakhurst at 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. on Monday, February 16, 2026, meet at 49111 Cinder Lane in Oakhurst.
Great Gray Owls of Yosemite National Park – Dustin Garrison
Dustin is a wildlife biologist for Yosemite National Park and has worked with great gray owls since 2014.
Topics included: Natural history of the Yosemite great gray owl, photography & owling ethics, fire ecology, vehicle collisions, hooting demonstration, and a Q & A session.
All ages welcome!
- Field Trip: Merced National Wildlife Refuge – Carpool on Saturday, February 21, 2026, meet at the Mariposa Fairgrounds at 5007 Fairgrounds Road.
Meet at the Mariposa Fairground at 7:00 A.M. to carpool to the refuge.
The Merced National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 10,262 acres of wetlands, native grasslands, vernal pools, and riparian areas in California. It was established in 1951 under the Lea Act to attract wintering waterfowl.
The refuge offers visitors a 5-mile auto tour route and 4 nature trails to observe and photograph birds and wildlife.
There is no fee to visit the auto tour route and nature trails.
Bring along a lunch or snacks, water, a camera and binoculars if you have them.

- Field Trip: Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park – Bird Walk on Saturday, March 14, 2026
Meet at the front of the park 43469 Highway 49, Ahwahnee at 7:30 A.M.
Ahwahnee Hill Regional Park is known for its diverse bird population and scenic trails. This guided walk focuses on bird identification and behavior, suitable for all skill levels.
Preparation Tips:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Bring binoculars for bird watching.
Consider bringing water and snacks.
