Jr. National Young Leader’s Conference Success Story
Congrats to Sierra Foothill Charter School seventh grader, Allex Smith! Based on his academic achievement and demonstration of leadership potential, his teacher, Erika Miranda, nominated Allex to attend the Junior National Young Leader’s Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, DC, July 24 – 29, 2016.
Allex liked the six day conference very much. He heard from speakers such as a retired member of congress and a pro athlete who persevered despite losing a leg. He participated in several mock debates and role playing leadership games. He also toured many monuments and museums. Allex met new friends, too. The JrNYLC provides a historical view of leadership and encourages young scholars to develop their own leadership skills and strategies for success in the 21st century. Allex said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He is very happy he went!
