Arrest Made Within Six Hours of Early Morning Shooting
February 14, 2026 – Turlock Police Department officials report that at approximately 12:41 a.m. on Friday morning, Turlock Police
officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Brentwood Apartments on N. Denair Avenue. A 22-year-old Turlock man later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds after fleeing the scene.
Investigators determined the incident stemmed from a domestic-related dispute involving a third party. The victim and suspect were not known to each other. This was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Through coordination between patrol officers, detectives, and SWAT — along with the strategic use of investigative technology — officers identified the suspect and took him into custody approximately six hours after the shooting.
Francisco Cortez Jr., 25, of Turlock, was arrested and booked on two counts of attempted murder.
This rapid arrest reflects the teamwork, persistence, and professionalism of the officers and detectives involved.
