February 16, 2026 – Mariposa County Library officials announce upcoming Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program coming to the Mariposa Library.

There's been a buzz the last few days about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program coming to the Mariposa Library. We can confirm that the rumors are true. The United Way VITA program will be here each Tuesday from February 24 through April 14 to offer walk-in tax filing preparation.

This is for individuals or spouses filing jointly who have made $69,000 or less in the 2025 tax year. It is also only available for Mariposa County residents.

Each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., trained and certified volunteers will help tax filers prepare their taxes. This service will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The forms are prepared by the volunteers and then shared with professional tax preparers, who look over the forms to ensure their accuracy. The guest is then presented with the tax return information and can choose whether to submit it or go elsewhere.

This service is totally free -- absolutely no expenses to those who participate.

The library has Frequently Asked Questions forms for those wondering what information to bring, and how the program works in greater detail.

To learn more, stop in or call 209-966-2140. We do anticipate this being a highly sought-after service, so we urge patience to those who show up to take part. The volunteers are offering this out of the goodness of their hearts.

The library is located at 4978 10th Street in Mariposa.
