High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

February 21, 2026 - Sierra National Forest officials update on High Sierra Ranger District Snopark Operations:

  • • The Over Snow Vehicle team has been exceptionally busy this week, especially with Snopark maintenance.
  • • The Team cleared several feet of snow from the Snoparks on Wednesday, much of it by hand, and are continuing their efforts today and Saturday.
  • • Please help the crews by:
  • • Keeping traffic lanes open.
  • • Practicing "Pack it in, Pack it out" to keep the parks clean. Avoid leaving broken sleds or other trash.

Snow Grooming Update:

  • • Heavy snowfall has created challenges, but grooming efforts are underway.
  • • Unfortunately, Snocat 1 is out of service due to a blown hydraulic line and requires manufacturer support for repairs.  (Request has been made)
  • • Current Grooming Schedule for Snocat 2:
  • • Today (Friday): Huntington Lake Trail
  • • Saturday: Kaiser Pass Trail
  • • Safety Tip: If you encounter a snow groomer on the trail, operators will stop and lower the blade as an indication that it is safe for you to pass. Do not assume that the operator has seen you until the blade is lowered!

Avalanche Safety & Deep Snow Conditions:

  • • The snow is very deep, and temperatures remain low. Always ski and ride with a buddy.
  • • The High Sierra Ranger District does not have an avalanche forecasting program.
  • • While most groomed snowmobile trails are in low avalanche risk areas, they can lead to higher-risk terrain.
  • • Important Safety Advisory: If you lack at least basic avalanche knowledge or skills, please do not venture into higher-risk areas. The snow will be there next week, allowing the snowpack more time to consolidate.
  • • Stay safe and remember to "Tread Lightly."

The teams are dedicated to keeping the area accessible and safe under challenging conditions. Your cooperation makes a big difference! Pictures are Eastwood & Coyote Sno-parks
