March 13, 2026 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, shortly after midnight, Southwest Policing District officers were dispatched to the Amtrak Station at Tulare Street and P Street, regarding multiple shots fired, and a shooting victim.

When officers arrived, they found an Amtrak bus that had been struck by gunfire. Officers also located casings in front of the station. Officers contacted the victim, and determined the victim was the Amtrak bus driver. The victim had a graze wound from broken glass to his cheek and was taken to CRMC for treatment. The victim was later released and is recovering at home.

Officers discovered the victim dropped off his passengers and was cleaning the inside of the bus when he saw a male walk up to the bus. The victim continued cleaning when he heard several loud sounds, and the windows of the bus began to shatter. As the victim took cover, he felt something strike his face. The victim ran toward the back of the bus and jumped out of the emergency window, and broke his ankle while jumping out. The suspect fled on foot.

Felony Assault Unit Detectives located surveillance video of the incident and disseminated images of the suspect to other officers department-wide.

Thursday morning, an officer who was conducting proactive patrol in the area of Blackstone Avenue and Holland Avenue, observed a subject matching the description of the shooting suspect provided by detectives. The subject the officer contacted, was wearing clothing matching the description of the clothing the suspect was wearing the night of the shooting.

Officers located a black 9mm Glock handgun with an extended magazine within the subject’s belongings. A records check confirmed that the firearm the suspect was in possession of was stolen.

Detectives positively identified the suspect as a suspect responsible for the shooting at the Amtrak station. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Deandre Dewayne McClain. McClain was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges related to this shooting.
