TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area & Highway Lane Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 152 & 165
March 21, 2026 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Routes 152 (SR-152) and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Area on southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 1, 2026.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists traveling southbound are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 152
- Single right lane closure on westbound SR-152 from Romero Visitor Center to Scenic Vista Point for pavement work beginning Monday, March 23, through Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Double right lane closures on westbound SR-152 from the Scenic Vista Point to Upper Cottonwood Road for pavement work beginning Wednesday, March 25, through Thursday, March 27, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 165
- One-way traffic control at Geer Avenue for pavement work beginning Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27, 2026, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
