Scam Alert: Pay for Pave
March 22, 2026 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that they have received information of a possible asphalt paving scam coming into our region, more specifically the Shaver Lake area.
We want to make our residents aware of individuals posing as contractors who approach homeowners offering discounted driveway paving services. We encourage you not to do business with them. Doing so could result in you paying them upfront and no work being completed, work that is performed is of poor quality or more money than was verbally agreed upon being demanded later on. We warn you to be skeptical of any type of business conducting door-to-door sales.

How to Protect Yourself:
Seek out contractors on your own. Verify they are licensed and insured through the California Contractors State License Board at: www.cslb.ca.gov.
Require a written contract that includes the company’s name, address, phone number, license number and a detailed scope of work.
Avoid paying in cash. Use a check or credit card to ensure a record of the transaction.
