March 24, 2026 – Madera CHP officials report that on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at about 5:45 p.m., CHP Madera officers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Road 145, east of SR-41.
A preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a 2018 Dodge Challenger traveling westbound lost control, crossed into the eastbound lane, and collided with a 2026 Honda CR-V. A 2013 Honda Accord traveling westbound behind the Dodge then struck the rear of the Honda CR-V. The driver and passenger in the Dodge were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda CR-V sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The driver of the Honda Accord briefly stopped, then fled the scene, leaving his passenger behind. With help from a witness, officers located the vehicle and driver. The driver was arrested for hit-and-run and DUI.
On March 23, 2026, through further investigation, it was discovered the “passenger” in the Honda Accord was the actual driver at the time of the crash. He was arrested at the CHP Madera Area office and booked at the Madera County Jail for various charges.
Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to have been a factor in the initial crash. All parties were wearing seatbelts.
Every impaired driving crash leaves behind more than twisted metal and broken glass. It leaves grief, trauma, and families forever changed. If you’ve been drinking, do not get behind the wheel. One choice can mean the difference between getting home safely and causing a tragedy.
