March 26, 2026 - TUOLUMNE COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be relocating the State Route 108/Sonora Pass eastbound closure gate out to Eagle Meadows as of 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026. Due to the warm weather and favorable road conditions Caltrans has made significant progress with pass clearing operations this week.

State Route 108/Sonora Pass will remain closed to eastbound traffic at the Eagle Meadows closure gate while maintenance crews clear the roadway in the coming weeks out to Kennedy Meadows. While Caltrans cannot specify the exact date Sonora Pass will formally reopen to traffic, however, the district will be providing weekly pass clearing updates to the public including highway closure gate relocations and road conditions.

Each season Caltrans works tirelessly to re-open SR-108/Sonora Pass to the traveling public. Beginning next week our Long Barn maintenance crew will be working 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week clearing out debris, down trees and making any needed repairs to roadway to safely re-open Sonora Pass to motorists.
