April 6, 2026 - Clovis, Calif. – Sierra National Forest (SNF) fire officials plan to continue seasonal prescribed burning on,
Tuesday, April 7th across the High Sierra (HSRD) Ranger District. The plan is to implement a 3-day ignition period on the Virginia Understory that could potentially extend into the weekend. Officials are looking to accomplish 300 acres of hazardous fuels reductions.

- • Blue Canyon (10S50, 10S50X and 10S02 rds.)
Ignitions may produce smoke visible from Cressman community, Shaver Lake, Dinkey Creek and Sycamore. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.
The SNF coordinates all burning activities with the Mariposa County Air Pollution Control District and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to time projects to coincide with favorable weather conditions and smoke dispersion.
Forest Visitors are urged to use caution and be on the lookout for fire crews and personnel when traveling near and through the Prescribed Burn areas. Residents and Visitors are encouraged not to report prescribed burn projects through the 9-1-1 emergency system.
This operation is weather-dependent, but conditions are trending favorable at this time. Weather conditions are evaluated regularly in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions
warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled/postponed.
