Jamestown Man Arrested After Foot Pursuit
April 10, 2026 – Sonora Police Department officials report that in the early morning hours of April 3, 2026, officers with the
Sonora Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac Grand Prix for an equipment violation on W. Stockton Street.
While speaking with the occupants in the vehicle, officers recognized a passenger, 40-year-old Jacob Bennett of the Jamestown area, from prior contacts. A records check revealed Bennett had two felony warrants out of Tuolumne County, including one for a probation violation involving a concealed dirk or dagger.
Bennett was asked to step out of the vehicle, where he advised officers, he had a knife concealed in his pockets. As officers removed the knife and attempted to detain Bennett, he fled on foot toward the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Officers gave chase as Bennett ignored repeated commands to stop.
Bennett attempted to hide behind a shed in the fairgrounds area, where officers quickly located him. He then attempted to flee a second time, at which point a Sonora PD officer deployed a Taser that struck Bennett, allowing officers to take him into custody.
Bennett was arrested and transported to the Tuolumne County Jail. He was charged with felony resisting an officer, felony carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and a felony probation violation. He was also booked on his two outstanding felony warrants.
It’s important to remember that the individuals mentioned in this report were arrested based on suspicion of the crimes they’ve been charged with. All such charges are mere allegations, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
