April 10, 2026 - Madera County, CA – Madera County is teaming with the community to help create a comprehensive action plan to madera410 safe routes to schoolmake it safer and easier for students and families to walk, bike, and roll to and from school.

County supervisors are partnering with Caltrans, Madera Unified, law enforcement, the city of Madera and community leaders for a call to action in a new public service announcement to develop a Safe Routes to School Plan.

The PSA encourages the community to get involved and why their voice is vital for the success of this project.

The Safe Routes to School project is a massive team effort, working with 33 schools, families, and community members across Madera County to identify barriers to active travel, highlight opportunities for improvements, and develop actionable recommendations that reflect the needs of each school community. 

The public outreach phase of the project is funded through a $700,000 grant awarded to the county through the Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Grant.

District 1 Supervisor Jordan Wamhoff says, “Our kids are depending on you to help make their routes to school safer. Your voice matters in creating safer ways for students to travel to and from school.”
