Looking for something fun, free and educational to do with the family on Saturday mornings? Bring them to the Mariposa Library for a read-aloud story, craft and activities everyone will enjoy.
This Saturday, September 10th, activities will include a surprise story, an unusual “un-library” scavenger hunt and making salt dough sculptures from scratch.
It all begins at 10 a.m. in the children’s room.
Free popcorn and movies are the featured activity on the second Wednesday of every month. Showing on Wednesday, September 14th will be “Zootopia,” a 2016 animated Disney film starring a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist. The PG-rated film starts at 3 p.m. in the children’s room. Children aged 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
On Saturday, September 17th, kids age 5 and older can read and create in the children’s room while their parents and older siblings are learning about the new makerspace in the library meeting room. When the makerspace workshop is over, everyone can get together for a family project.
Rounding out the month on Saturday, September 24th, is “Manga Movie Madness.” The event will start at 10 a.m. with “Spirited Away,” the award-winning Disney Studios animated adventure film by director Hayao Miyazaki. During lunch (pizza) Mariposa High School art student Abi Ortiz will demonstrate the art of manga and anime and participants will be invited to draw their own characters. The day will continue after lunch with another Miyazaki movie “My Neighbor Totoro.” Admission, lunch and art supplies are free. (Lunch is for event attendees only.)
