Farm workers will bear the brunt of changes

September 13, 2016 - Sacramento – Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte), a lifelong farmer, issued the following statement in response to the tom berryhill california state senatorGovernor signing into law Assembly Bill 1066 (Gonzalez D-San Diego), which changes California’s agriculture overtime rules:

“Of the 789 bills presented to the governor in the final days of the legislative session, no one bill will be ultimately more devastating to the California economy than Assembly Bill 1066. While well intentioned, this bill will result in less income for the agriculture worker. The ripple effect will wreak havoc on California’s economy, particularly in agricultural communities.”

Senator Berryhill and other legislators representing the San Joaquin Valley sent a letter to the governor urging him to veto the bill.  The letter can be found here.
