Answer the Call: Volunteer Firefighters Needed in Mariposa County
May 9, 2026 – Mariposa County officials announce Volunteer Firefighters are needed.
When someone dials 911, help is expected to arrive. In a rural county like ours, that response often depends on volunteers stepping forward to serve.
In 2025 alone, the Mariposa County Fire Department (MCFD) responded to 1,871 incidents, most of them medical calls. At the same time, some stations, including Catheys Valley and Greeley Hill, currently have no volunteer personnel assigned, creating gaps in coverage.
MCFD offers a range of roles to match different interests and availability:
Support Members – Assist with public education, events, and outreach
Medical Responders – Respond to the majority of calls, providing critical medical aid
Firefighters – Respond to all incident types and operate fire apparatus
All training and equipment are provided at no cost.
